Liam Hunter from Redan led the count with 23 votes from just 10 games.
However, he was deemed ineligible for the award after being suspended as a result of being reported in a senior match.
Hunter received the ban after having his number taken against Lake Wendouree in round 16 - one of only five senior appearances he made for the season.
After much deliberation by the league during the week, it was decided that he would be ineligible for the reserves award.
Batten's votes came in nine games, including four best-on-grounds.
DYLON Bishop from Bacchus Marsh is the BFL under-18.5 best and fairest.
He finished on 26 votes.
Bishop received three votes in the last three rounds finish over the top of Billy Hoye from North Ballarat City, who led by one vote going into the last round after being judged to be in the top three in seven consecutive games.
